History

Sun­belt Fed­er­al Cred­it Union has been proud­ly serv­ing mem­bers since its found­ing on Octo­ber 16, 1953, orig­i­nal­ly char­tered as Masonite Employ­ees Fed­er­al Cred­it Union. What began as a small, mem­ber-dri­ven insti­tu­tion has grown into a thriv­ing, mul­ti-mil­lion-dol­lar finan­cial coop­er­a­tive — and it’s all thanks to you, our members.

Our suc­cess has always been root­ed in the com­mit­ment of our mem­bers who choose to save, bor­row, and sup­port one anoth­er through the cred­it union dif­fer­ence. Over the years, ded­i­cat­ed vol­un­teers have served on com­mit­tees and boards, help­ing shape the direc­tion and strength of the cred­it union.

As our field of mem­ber­ship expand­ed beyond Masonite, we adopt­ed a new name — Cen­tral Sun­belt Fed­er­al Cred­it Union — on Jan­u­ary 1, 1983. Con­tin­ued growth led to major mile­stones, includ­ing the open­ing of our new Hat­ties­burg head­quar­ters in 1991, a sec­ond office in Lau­rel in 1995, and anoth­er Hat­ties­burg loca­tion in 2000.

By 2019, our reach had out­grown the “Cen­tral” in our name, so we embraced a refreshed iden­ti­ty: Sun­belt Fed­er­al Cred­it Union — a name that bet­ter reflects our broad­er ser­vice area and sun­ny out­look on finan­cial well-being.
